Brussels

    Brussels is a region of Belgium comprising 19 municipaties,including the City of Brussels which is the capital of Belgium.

   Food:

 Brussels is known for its local waffle,its chocolate,its French fries and its numerous types of beers.Also,Belgian cuisine is characterised by the combination of French cuisine with more hearty Flemish fare.The city is a stronghold,(usually as "moules frites",served with fries).In addition to the regular selection of Belgian beer,the famous lambic style of beer is predominately brewed in and around Brussels,and the yeasts have their origin in the Senne valley.

 Sports:

   The city hosted the final of the 1972 UEFA European Football Championship,and the opening game of the 2000 edition.The King Baudouin Stadium is also home of the annual Memorial Van Damne athletics event,witch is part of the IAAF Diamond Leauge.Other important athletics events are the Brussels Marathon and the 20 km of Brussels.The Brussels Cycling Classic is one of the oldest semi classic bicycle races on the international calendar.

  The most successful Belgian football club in the Belgian Pro Leauge is R.S.C with 33 titles.It has also won the most major European tournaments for a Belgian side.White Star Bruxelles is another football cluvb that plays in second division.

  Theatre:

 In the last three decades la Monnaie has regained its place amongst the foremost opera houses in Europe thanks to the efforts of the successive directors Gerard Mortier and Bernard Foccroulle and music directors Sylvain Cambreling and Antonio Pappano.

The current edifice is the third theatre on the site. The façade dates from 1818 with major alterations made in 1856 and 1986. The foyer and auditorium date from 1856, but almost every other element of the present building was extensively renovated in the 1980s.
